The R5500 USB console uses a Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge Virtual COM Port driver, which may require configuration of drivers on your PC.
- Power on the R5500 and wait approximately 30 seconds to allow it to boot up.
- Connect the USB cable to the R5500 USB console port and your PC's USB port.
- Depending on the version of your PC's Windows OS, your PC should automatically detect the R5500 as a new USB device and install the appropriate driver. Check to ensure that the driver is properly installed by inspecting Control Panel > Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT), at which a “Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (COM7)” (or equivalent COM#) should appear without error. If the driver has not appeared or has errors, then proper drivers may be found at http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/pages/usbtouartbridgevcpdrivers.aspx.
- With the USB to UART Bridge drivers installed, again take note of the COM port number that it has been assigned by inspecting Control Panel > Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT).
